What is a Story Improvement Proposal (SIP)?
A SIP is a document that proposes standards, guidelines, and recommendations for the Story network and its broader ecosystem. It must include complete rationale, context, and sufficient details for the proper implementation.
What could be a SIP?
SIPs are designed to make “substantial” changes to the network architecture and its parameters, software implementation details, and other standards impacting the broader ecosystem.
The definition of a “substantial” change evolves with community norms and varies across different parts of the ecosystem. Such changes may include the following:
- A change in format user interfaces (e.g. JSON-RPC API changes)
- Protocol parameters (e.g. target block production rate)
- Node hardware minimum requirement changes
Some changes do not require a proposal, for example:
- Rephrasing, reorganizing, refactoring, or otherwise changing structure without altering meaning.
- Performance improvements to the node software without impacting any other nodes or users.
Where to start?
The very first step of SIP process, is sharing the idea in this forum category as a new post but before posting please check if there is no duplication of the idea. The goal is to capture as much as feedback from the community members and find sponsors. Sponsors are community members who has extensive knowledge about the topic or heavily benefits from this change.
For sharing the ideas no template is considered to remove the very first barrier, but when the idea is ready to be converted into a draft (creating a RP in the SIP repo), the proposal needs to adhere to the defined structure.
You can read more the process here.
To prevent spam post, posting creating a new idea thread is limited active member of community (who has read couple of other posts and have commented on some) to be able to post a new idea. If you need assistant please reach out to the community leaders.
